Thanks, Candice, for your uplifting perspective on literature and for the practical reading suggestions.

Also, Kendra Fletcher's website, Preschoolers and Peace, recently posted a reading list for her younger boys. Enjoy!

Hey Candice! I agree that finding good books for boys is a challenge. Matthew (9) is a voracious reader and I'm constantly looking for good books for him. By good, I mean that are interesting to boys aged 9-12, well written, and free of all the garbage you get in most modern stuff. We've been through all the book lists that Sonlight has to offer as well as SWB. But I think someone should start a list like this...someone like you, perhaps? If you do, or if you don't, I can recommend a book by Ian Wilson called "The Secret of the Old Swing Bridge". It's an historical fiction that reads like the old Hardy Boys. The writer's actually coming out with a sequel this summer, so we won't be left waiting too long.

Great idea, Tarah! I'm going now to order that Wilson book from our library! Please keep the suggestions coming. :0) And be sure to check out the bookfinder on SimplyCharlotteMason.com. I think you'll find titles there that Sonlight and SWB don't have. Also, Sarah Clarkson's book, Read for the Heart, a book of books. So good to hear from you!! :0)

Candice, thanks for the living books link. I'm going to check that out for my older girls. :-)

FamilyMaking is all about fruitfulness in faith and family. It may sound spiritual, but it's more earthy than that, it's a day-to-day process of sanctification.

We hope you'll be encouraged here to grow closer to God in your path to getting married and starting a family as we talk about the ways God is guiding us to be more intentional with the marriage and kids He's given us.
